FAQs

Why do you charge for shipping when other seed companies offer "Free Shipping"?

Companies that offer "Free Shipping" build the cost of shipping into their seed blends, and they can offer similar pricing by then using a high % of fillers or poor germination rates to improve their profit margins. When this happens the quality of seed, the amount of actual seed or both, suffers greatly to you as the consumer.

Just about any seed manufacturer that sells their seed within the big box stores does the same because the big box stores dictate such a low price that they purchase their seed blends at. When XYZ company sells you those same blends online, they actually make several times more profit per bag, and can afford to then tell you that you are getting "Free Shipping".

On top of that they will often offer an extremely cheap filler seed like ryegrass, to improve their margins. We encourage you to look at % of inert matter in the bag, and also any form of rye grass that is added to the mix. Both reflect the % of filler. Inert matter is huge tho! That is literally the amount of seed you don't get in the bag (ryegrass isn't much better).

Much of the time inert matter is a coating of lime to improve profit margins...which is a common theme in the industry. The bottom line, no seed company offers "Free Shipping" and either the overall germination quality of the blend, the amount of seed or both suffer greatly as they pass their cost cutting efforts onto you in the form of "Free Shipping".

We offer a premium product with the lowest amounts of fillers and the highest germination rates possible, and we unfortunately have to charge more for your ultimate level of success that we demand for you.

What should I plant?

Jeff, Dylan, Joe, Kevan and Wes diagnose this question with their on-site clients as an hour to 2 hour discussion over the course of their daily visits. Deer numbers, resources of time and money, % of cover Vs. field, region, type of soil, neighborly food sources, your planting equipment and size of your food plots are just some of the considerations we need to know to answer this question.

Unfortunately without a lengthy discussion too long for phone or email, we cannot in good conscience tell you exactly what to buy. We instead are happy to be able to refer you to Jeff's hundreds of website articles or YouTube videos to help you make your decision.

The last thing we want to do is to sell you one of our blends that you do not need, just so that we can make some money due to a lack of our integrity in the face of your good faith.

Is it "OK" to have weeds in my food plots?

Absolutely not! While weeds can be a welcome (sometimes) addition to your Summer food plots, those weeds zap your food plots of precious nutrients and space when entering the critical time for both deer and hunter: During the Fall. Weeds turn dead and brown, take up growing space and a food plot with 50% weed growth heading into the hunting season turns into 10% or less of actual total forage in your food plot during the Fall, Winter and following Spring.

Whether with repeated tilling during the Summer months or the use of herbicide, you need to give your food plot a fighting chance by eliminating any weeds in your plot. We take the stance through 30 years of personal experience as well as through the 10s of thousands of clients, readers and viewer experience that we have accumulated, that every weed needs to be eliminated, 100% of the time.

After all...why buy our seed, create your plots, amend the soil, buy planting equipment and take the time to plant, if you are not going to eliminate weeds. You already have to contend with moisture, critters eating seed, fertility levels and untimely early late frosts or freezes, so you should at least take the time to work hard to achieve 1 of the most critical factors that is under your complete level of self control - The weeds in your plots!

Some companies offer a dozen or more seed varieties in a given blend and other than your pollinator blend, isn't more seed better?

Balance is key when building seed blends!

Many seeds combine well together, for example various broadleaf perennials and then brassica combined with those same perennial blends. However, too many seed companies combine large percentages of rye, oats or wheat with brassica blends, which is a no-no, and many seeds such as Austrian Winter Peas or Sugar Beets are offered as buzzwords to grab your money, while not offering any volume to your food plot. The same can be said for Summer Soil Builders that feature so many seed varieties that none really contribute to actually building the soil in the plot (Think "jack of all trades master of none"), and combine high organic matter varieties within their plantings such as sorghum or sunflower, that actually take years to break down and steal nutrients from the soil to do so.

More is not better within a seed blend, instead an understanding of the balance needed to produce a quality and successful planting by combining the correct number of seeds together to accomplish your goal and ours, is vital to your success! Our blends are backed by 30 years of experience in the food plot industry, through the practice of trial and error by Jeff, as well as feedback from our on-site clients which total over 2000 clients across over 30 states. We have the ability to create any blend that we desire, and we build what we feel are the best blends for YOU, and not blends that include buzzwords and gimmicks designed to soak your hard earned dollars out of your pocket.

Why should I buy from you?

When is the best time to plant seed?

The best timeframe to plant your seed is indicated within the description of each seed blend in the store, in particular either a Spring or Fall food plot timing. When you purchase your seed the planting instructions offer a much more definitive look into when to plant your seed blend. In addition, we have a great deal of resources to assist you with your specific region's food plot timing within the food plot playlist on our YouTube channel.
